Over the years . . .

. . .  I have heard of contests for both the best opening sentence of a book and the worst ("It was a dark and stormy night." is always near the top of that list).  Well, here is my nomination for the best opening sentence.  It is from Garrison Keillor's Pontoon:

"Evelyn was an insomniac so when they say she died in her sleep, you have to question that."
