He is, as far as I know, the world's only jazz-fusion banjoist. For some time now I've been trying to find something like that for myself. An unoccupied niche, that is. It's not nearly as hard to be the best one in the world if you're the only one in the world.
Some niches aren't as empty as you'd think, though. I would have thought that Robert Randolf was the only blues-gospel steel player in the world, but when he was on Austin City Limits he invited some of the people who had influenced his career and before he was done he had four blues-gospel steel players on the stage.
