Phrembah (a potato-like mystery)
. . . is a fresher-than-usual take on an old sci-fi trope, "first contact." It's not what you think, it's not what you expect and it's not the same old shit. And there's not a single fist fight, which does not bode well for box office projections, but is infinitely endearing to me. God, I get tired of fist fights in movies! But that's what American audiences can understand and identify with, which is slightly ironic because most of us bloated, pudgy 'Mer'kins would be killed or permanently disabled by the first blow in an honest-to-god fist fight.
District 9 was the last sci-fi flick I remeber that was not the same old shit. There may have been a fist fight in the lab scene, but overall, it had a lot of new ideas. Fresh sci-fi is very, very rare.
